Orlando Coronavirus Update
Osceola County is opening up again!
Finally, after two long months of closures due to the coronavirus lockdown, Osceola County is beginning to open up.
There are a few precautions that must still be taken but vacation homes in the county have now received the go-ahead to begin receiving guests once more. Now, for the first time in two months, paid bookings are outpacing canceled trips.
Are you going nuts and ready to get out of your house? How about a trip to Osceola County in sunny Florida!
The Vacation Rental Market
Vacation rentals are a huge part of the economy in Osceola County. There are over 30,000 licensed vacation rentals in Osceola County that account for roughly half of the county’s $60 million tourism development tax dollars.
Vacation rentals are also a huge part of the economy in general in Osceola County. Thus, accepting visitors is good news not only for vacation home owners, but also for the myriad of small businesses and jobs supported by the industry. These include housekeepers, landscapers, pool maintenance workers, caterers, security staff, and more.
All in all, tourism contributes about $2 billion to the county's economy in a good year. That represents a lot of people’s livelihoods.
Visiting Osceola County
Overall, Osceola County has done well during the coronavirus pandemic. Out of roughly 9,000 tests that have been performed in Osceola County, a mere 7% have tested positive.
It is for this reason that officials have decided to start opening up the county and begin to accept visitors to the area once more. And plenty of people are ready for a beach vacation after the struggles they’ve had for the past couple of months.
Some evidence suggests that the virus doesn’t survive well in warm temperatures and humidity. UV rays also seem to be an effective method for killing the virus. Osceola County has plenty of all three, making it a perfect spot for vacationers looking to clear their heads and de-stress a bit in a relatively safe spot.
Soak up some sun out by the pool or head to the beach. The extra dose of Vitamin D will certainly benefit you and help to strengthen your immune system. It’s also good for your mental health, which some people have been struggling with. Being cut off from the world and rudely thrust out of your normal routine is not ideal for anyone.
Precautionary Measures
Of course, precautionary guidelines have been put in place that vacation home owners and staff must abide by to help ensure that all visitors and staff remain healthy and safe. Nobody wants to see Osceola County forced to shut down again.
- Owners and managers must adhere to the same guidelines that are in place for businesses
- Strict cleaning and disinfecting guidelines are in place and must be followed to a T
- Owners should provide guests with information on the local restrictions in effect during their stay
- Guest count (including parties) may not exceed the maximum occupancy
- Those coming from highly infected areas must reserve at least 14-nights and maintain self-quarantine according to the guidelines set forth by the CDC during their stay
That last one is kind of a bummer, but at least maintaining quarantine in a spacious vacation home is far more luxurious than being stuck in your little bitty New York apartment.
On the plus side, states like Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, and Vermont are requiring all visitors to complete a mandatory 14-day quarantine. So the fact that Florida allows most visitors to enter without completing a quarantine makes it a great choice for your next trip.
Welcome to Osceola County
The good news is that as restrictions are being relaxed, people can get out of their homes, visit the beach, and try to get some semblance of normal back in their lives.
International travel plans may still have to be put on hold as much of the world is still closed down and only accepting residents. But here in Osceola County, vacation rentals are open and visitors are being welcomed with open arms!
